Day 1, 2 and 3 - May 28, 29 and 30
On Wednesday, May 28, Matt came over to my house at 8 am. We finished getting things ready and caught an Uber to SFO at 9 am. Everything went smoothly other than me feeling very nauseous and motion sick by the time we got to the airport. We got checked in and had a couple of hours to wait. I found something to eat to calm my stomach and Matt, of course, shared a little but ordered nothing. Very much his MO.
The flight was calm and everything went according to plan. It felt so long to me and between my right knee, which has been acting up the last six weeks, and my every present hamstrings that hate sitting, it wasn't a lot of fun. But we got to London on time, got through security and started our next wait. By now, it is May 29th in the morning. We boarded the plan for Split at 1135 am without any issues and started our next leg. By now, we are both exhausted, as neither of us have slept at all. We caught a few winks on that flight and landed in Split around 3:30 pm. We were lucky as I had emailed the group leader to ask for recommendations about transport to the airport. She let me know that she would be there picking up another group and could give us a ride. Everything went without a hitch and finally, almost 24 hours after leaving home, we arrived at our hotel.
We took a tour into the old city right away with our group. I'm starting to feel like the walking dead and my legs are exhausted. My knee feels like hell from all the time on the airplane. But it was still lovely and I enjoyed seeing the city. After our tour, we came back to the hotel, had a "welcome drink" and went through orientation, including all the rules and regulations for our two week tour. After this, we had dinner together. I could barely stay awake through the orientation but everything finally ended and we headed to our room. We got ready for bed quickly and took an Ativan to help us sleep. We fell into bed grateful to finally be horizontal.
We both slept fairly decent with the help of our favorite drug. Alarm went off at 6:30 am and we started day 3, Friday, May 30.
Started with breakfast and then loaded into the vans to head about 40 minutes away for our Seaside Walk. The weather was absolutely beautiful. The walk was easy and lovely. We walked to the town of Primosten. Wandered around a bit and I had a coffee and Matt had gelato. Very European with all the wonderful ambience of winding cobblestone streets and sidewalk cafes. After our time there, we drove back to Trogir. We had a small break to freshen up and then walked back into the old city. We had a wonderful lunch at a neighborhood restaurant with delicious fish and potato stew. One of our group had a birthday which was celebrated with a delicious cake which we all shared.
After lunch, we had a city tour. Our leader is great but it was way too much for me. Full of church history, which I have no interest in, and it went way too long. I was so tired and could barely stand. Thank God, it finally ended and we had the rest of the day to ourselves.
Matt and I came back to the hotel and rested for a short while. Set a alarm to prevent us from sleeping more than 30 minutes. We are still feeling pretty jet lagged. We headed back into town and just wandered. We bought tickets to the Kamerlengo Castle and went to the top; we were treated with 360 gorgeous views of the area.
We were on our own for dinner tonight. Found a place and shared a pizza and a salad. Wandered aroung a bit more after dinner and shared another gelato! One of those perfect moments. The weather was perfect. The town is so beautiful and I am enjoying it with a man I love and enjoy who appears to love and enjoy me.
