Day 5 - June 1

Leaving Trogir today. Loved our stay here.

In the bus at 8:00 after a somewhat unimpressive breakfast. Not loving the food here at this hotel.

Our first stop was the ruins of Salona, just outside Split. Lots of history here and yours truly has a hard time paying attention. But there was an archaeologist who was instrumental in digging up all the ruins. There were a lot of coffins including his own, which he designed before died and required it to be placed at the site of the ruins.

After Salona, we drove on to Split. We toured the old part of the town including the palace. Very fascinating. The ground floor of the palace can be toured but the other levels have all been turned into apartments and places for people to live. At one point, the ground floor was full of rubbish that had been thrown there from the floors above. Most of it has been dug out now and it is impressive.

Our next stop was lunch at a local restaurant. I ordered beef and gnocchi and once again, just having a hard time with the food. The flavors are hard for me for some reason. But I enjoyed the salad and bread! After lunch, we had some time on our own. We hiked up a zillion steps to the top of the city. Extraordinary views! My knee did pretty well although coming down was a little difficult at times.

We all met at 3:30 after spending time in Split on our own. Boarded the bus and headed to Makarska. The drive was incredibly beautiful. We drove along the water. Stopped once and enjoyed the views. Gigantic mountains all around with the sea below. This is what I love! The beauty is breathtaking.

Arriving in Makarska, our minds our blown. This town is absolutely gorgeous. Set with the mountains as a back drop, out hotel is right on the sea. The weather is perfect. It is so beautiful that you can't believe it.

We settled in our room and then met our guide, Daniel, for a quick tour of the downtown. I'm pretty hungry by now and it was a little hard for me to endure all the talking. Let's get real. I don't enjoy standing and listening. Just don't. But it was nice walking around the down town area.

Finally finished and got back to the hotel for dinner. I am starving by now due to my not eating much lunch. Dinner was pretty good, definitely better than the last hotel buffet.

Matt and I went for a long walk after dinner. The sky was lit with beautiful colors and we are loving every minute here together. Looking forward to tomorrow!
