Day 11 - June 7

Today we traveled from Makarska to Dubrovnik.

After the hotel breakfast - which for me was the same every day - yogurt with granola and coffee followed by a chocolate croissant - we boarded the bus, all packed up and ready to leave for the next fun thing.

The drive along the coast line was beautiful. Croatia never disappoints with beauty around every turn. We stopped in the town of Narona for a museum tour. Narona is built on old Roman ruins from that date B.C. The museum has some incredible statues and a temple that have been unearthed. The tour took about an hour and a half and as usual, this is not my favorite thing. I have such a hard time being curious and interested about this stuff. But I endured and Matt enjoyed it.

After the tour, we crossed the street and boarded some old wood boats for a tour on the Narona River. It was beautiful and serene. It was mostly just entertainment for us with a different type of experience. After the river ride, we had lunch. I loved it. Bread, salad, lentil soup and sausages. Everything tasted so good.

Our next stop was the town of Ston. This is a town with salt flats and stone walls had been built around the town from long ago to protect the salt flats. We hiked to the top of the wall and then Matt and I kept going up. Everyone else was sensible in the 90 degree heat and went down. But we kept going up and up and up. It was beautiful from the top but boy, it was so hot. And so many stairs.

Our next stop will now be Dubrovnik. Tamara, our guide, bought some Croatian chocolate and shared with us on the bus. It was so good.

We arrived safely in Dubrovnik. Our hotel here is enormous. We had some time to freshen up and we had to shower. We were so stinky and sweaty after our hike up those zillion steps. We met Tamara in the lobby for an orientation of the hotel and the area surrounding.

And finally dinner. And what an experience. This is a buffet like few you have seen. There is every choice of meat, salad, cheese, pizza, sushi, dessert, gelato, and on and on and on. I got full far too quick and still feel full as I write this at 10:00 p.m. But the food was good. We chatted away with Paul and Pam, a couple on the trip. It was really enjoyable socializing with people our age.

After dinner, we were headed out for a walk and met up with Reed and Dayle. Ended up chatting with them for about 30 minutes. Feel like the social butterflies tonight. But so nice.

And now we are headed to bed. Tomorrow will be a hike to a local village where we will watch a folk dance and have lunch. The afternoon will be ours and dinner will be on our own too. It is supposed to be a little cooler which will be good.

A very nice day. And I'm with the best guy ever.
