Day 15 - June 11

Last day here. It has been a long and very active vacation.

We got up pretty early and were showered and out of our room by 7:30 am. We went to the Kennington station and boarded the Tube. We are headed to Tower Bridge for our first stop. The weather was cool and cloudy, very unlike Croatia. We found a place along the way and got some breakfast and coffee. Everything we have bought here is very good. And there are so many people out that it is completely mind boggling. The streets are filled with people all headed to work. We toured the Bridge and bought tickets so we could go up to the top level and of course, explore the engine room. Matt loved this room and spent some time there. I like seeing him fascinated by all the things that pique his interest. It isn't terribly fascinating to me but I love sharing it with him.

After the Tower, we started walking and seeing all the sights along the way. We stopped at a very old church called the All Hallows Church - it is the oldest church in London, built around 700 AD. We saw the Tower of London and the White Castle. We didn't go inside. Matt told me that this is the place where many people have been beheaded in London's history. There is a moat surrounding the castle that is filled with poppies.

It is an interesting sight - all the very old buildings with new, modern building built around them. After walked for a ways and exploring as we walked, we stopped at a place called the Restaurant Terrace and had lunch.

We decided we wanted to see the matinee of Oliver so after lunch, we hopped back on the tube and rode to the Theater District. The play was magnificent. I loved it so much. The singing, acting, dancing and the pit orchestra were all stellar. And of course, I love the music so much.

After the play, we walked to Buckingham Palace. What an incredible sight. Glad I don't live there. We walked along the street which has been named the Diana Memorial Walk. And I'm always filled with sadness at the suffering Diana experienced and the tragic way her life ended.

We walked back over to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Wanted to see them one more time. By now, I am dropping with fatigue. We are close to 20,000 steps on the day again and my body is feeling every one of them.

We decided to walk towards our Air BnB and find a place to eat close to our room. We ended up at a pub called The Black Dog. We shared Fish and Chips again! And we also had the most incredible sticky toffee pudding. It was a nice way to end our stay here.

We get up bright and early tomorrow to fly home. What a wonderful vacation. But I am admittedly ready to return home.
