Day 7 - June 3

Today we are hiking the Red and Blue Lakes.

Of course, every day starts with the buffet breakfast at the hotel and the awful coffee. But I've found yogurt and am enjoying that for breakfast at least.

We headed to our hike and stopped at a local market along the way. I woke up feeling like absolute hell. A migraine headache and low grade nausea and just nightmarish. I think I'm going through estrogen withdrawal from taking off my patch. But took ibuprofen and kept going.

The market didn't do much for me but it was interesting to see. Local fare flea market fare. We were there for a short while and headed on to hike. We drove past the Green Lake on our way. Astounding color.

Started our hike and came to the Red Lake first. The Red Lake is in a sink hole with red walls. Doesn't really look red but has that name because of the red walls which I guess can make the water look red from the reflection. Just absolutely incredible. It is about 800 feet deep and the walls of the sink hole are also about 800 feet so it is really mind boggling and beautiful. Continuing on our hike, we hiked to the Blue Lake which is a startling color of blue. The neighboring hillsides, the steeples of the churches and the ruins on the hills all combine to make such a picturesque scene. Just extraordinary.

We ended our hike by walking through the town of Imotski. The bus met us there and took us to the local place where we would eat lunch. The lunch was so good. I do not remember the name but it was veal, chicken and vegetables slow cooked with hot coals. Of course, there was salad, bread, grappa, wine and dessert! This was one of my favorite meals. So good. But the eating never seems to end.

After lunch, we have wine tasting! And we had wine for lunch too! But on we go. I barely had any. I'm worried about my headache which has improved but is lingering in the background. They served four different kinds of wine and gave us the history of each. And I can't tell you much for a variety of reasons. But people who like wine seem to think it was good.

Back on the bus, we came back to the hotel. Matt and I rested for a few minutes and then went to the electronics store and bought what I needed to charge my laptop. We then decided to walk the promenade the the peninsula loop. It was a lovely walk - about 2.5 miles. I'm feeling much more like myself because I put a patch back on. After our walk, we ate a little bit at the hotel. I just ate salad and dessert. I'm getting worn out on food. Then we walked some more!
