Day 9 - June 5

We got to sleep in today! Our meeting time was 9 am. Very pleasant not to rush.

I didn't sleep great. Still struggling to get to sleep and we had party boats playing music with booming bass way into the night. But I finally got to sleep and got about six hours.

Today, we are touring the island of Brac. After breakfast, we walked to the ferry, about ten minutes from the hotel and boarded the boat. It was a gorgeous day, as they all have been. How lucky can you be? After reaching Brac, we boarded the buses and headed to the stonecutter's school in Brac. This is a public school with a high school curriculum that teaches the stones the art of stone cutting. We heard from one of the students about his experience. It was quite interesting. We roamed the town for a bit after touring the school. Matt and I wandered the streets a bit and I had the proverbial latte.

Our next stop was an olive tasting and lunch. This was really fascinating. The family doing the tour had restored an old home where olive oil was produced. Since the home is over 100 years old, there are many rules about what how the home must be restored. Everything must be authentic. We had a very interesting tour of how olive oil was made before modern machinery and then had a lovely lunch in the old house. Lunch was jams, olive oil, cheeses, olive pates, prosciutto, bread, olives, candied orange peels and other finger foods that I can't remember! It was an explosion of a million different flavors. Very good. I really enjoyed it. And we had grappa made with olive oil. I like grappa and this one was really good.

After lunch, we walked a bit around the very old town and then headed to the very top peak on Brac. There was a very little bit of hiking. Not much. This has been an easier day on the feet and knees. From there, we were treated to amazing views. Yes, more of those. Croatia is so beautiful.

Time to head back to the ferry. It was a bit of a drive but not too bad. When we got back to town, Matt and I went to the beach by the hotel and dipped into the Sea. It is a very hot day and the water felt wonderful. Our handy water shoes we bought for hiking in Zion work great on these rocky beaches.

Dinner was in the hotel and it was the usual fare. Just ok. After dinner, Matt and I walked all around town. It was the loveliest night you could ever imagine. Perfect temperatures. The town is very lively tonight. Lots of people and all the restaurants are packed at 9:00 pm at night. I think the summer season is beginning.

Lovely day. I'm feeling more like myself today which is nice.
